I've been thinking this for years, but it had little to do with his age. ;-)

There's a move to nominate Abe Vigoda as the next Pope. It's high time there was a Jewish one.

I could not agree more. The media is acting like he is invincible and live forever. Just let the poor man go already.

It seems almost as though this is the end of an era and people are just trying to hang on to him as long as they can.

you would think that they would let the man go out with a little dignity instead of wheeling him around like some freakshow.

Yeah. My grandfather had chronic leukemia and was slowly dying of it. One time we were up visiting (I was in my late teens as I recall) and somehow he and I were alone in their living room. He turned to me out of the blue and said "You know, Jay, when a man gets so old they ought to just take him out and shoot him." I really couldn't think of anything to say to this and I was so uncomfortable that I left the room. This was a man that was always full of life and pep, always playing jokes on people. But I think I understand him better now and can appreciate those words more. When animals get old and are suffering we have them put down out of kindness, yet we refuse the same consideration to each other.

if he dies there's going to be so much turmoil in catholicism. and think of all of the catholics worldwide who'd be affected by this and the various positions they hold in society.

if he dies? how about when he dies?

the only way to avoid it is if they fill the pope mobile in formaldehyde and cart him around that way. he's only a man, he's going to die eventually.

it just seems wrong to me that they're treating their spiritual leader with so little dignity.

It isn't as tho all the other Popes are still alive, why should this one be any different?

I'm also wondering if he (the Pope) is having second thoughts about a persons right to die...
