gianormous picture post!

we went to feed the ducks last friday morning. we save all the heels from all our bread until we have about a loaf's worth and head down to the river.

by ducks, i actually mean geese. these are the only two ducks we saw.

the river:

we went to three places, the first place all the ducks were asleep. the second place i forgot my camera, but there were two geese and a family of mallards that would come and eat out of my hand. the third place, we were mauled by geese.

here they are running straight for me, which is a lot more creepy when it's happening to you than you would think.

fighting over the bits of bread i've thrown down

this goose ate out of my hand, and then came back for seconds as i was taking pictures and tried to eat the camera.

other random geese

there was also the cutest litte baby goose, that belong to one of the ugly burn victim geese. (the white headed one in the second picture)

while searching for the junkyard friday afternoon, i saw this in the parking lot of some strip mall.

how fucking georgia is that?

shawn drew this on the mirror. it makes me smile.

new crabby home

i'm proud of it, i've worked really hard on it. the crabs seem to love it.

i'm almost done with the quarter. i've been busting my ass this past week getting most of my projects done and working on my car. not actually getting my car to shift properly, because i need shawn's help for that and he never wants to help with it. i've just been putting on the stuff we got at the junkyard.

i discovered through that experience that it's best to keep me away from plexiglass and silicone sealant. i think i burned half of my brain away working on it.

Damn, you're getting a flare for the whole wildlife photo thing. And you oughta put siding and shingles on your crabbie condo. It reminds me of two singlewides stacked atop one another;-)

have you ever seen the multistory trailers? they're quite possibly the worst idea ever.

Ah, your pictures answered a question I was going to ask you about hermie crabs.

That I thought they were marine critters and needed to live in water rather than a dry aquarium with sand in. Somebody brought a hermit crab in to work here and they have her in a tank like yours, only with less stuff in there for her to do (they're still putting it together and adding things). So I was going to ask you if they needed a salt water tank or what.

there are marine hermit crabs too. i just happen to have land crabs.

land crabs need water (salt and fresh) and high humidity (around 70%) so they can breathe with their modified gills.

Amazing. I didn't know there even were land hermit crabs. Being from the Puget Sound area I've only seen the seagoing kind. All this time I'd assumed you kept a saltwater aquarium for your crabs.

only the coenobita genus are land dwelling, as well as the freakishly large coconut crab. the coconut crab is large enough to crack a small child's head open with its claw, which possibly makes it one of my favorite animals ever.

i was going to check it out but i was in class when i saw it and, though i can explain constant emailing in class, i can't explain pictures of squirrels without it being blatantly obvious that i'm not paying a damn bit of attention.
