i had a dream last night that i was carving a plantain for halloween. it was a truly massive plantain, like too big to wrap my hand around.

i woke up debating the logistics of carving a plantain. i believe my first thought this morning was "nah... i think it'd be too soft..."

it was a working on cars kinda day. i love working on cars. it's so rewarding to actually fix something mechanical and being able to watch it work. it's much more satisfying than fixing computer hardware (mostly because fixing one thing on a computer generally breaks another).

shawn's car isn't holding a charge so i have to keep jumping it. we're going to see about getting his battery charged so we can fix my torque mount and drive his car around while the rubber cures. then the cv axle needs to be replaced (argh, again. i just replaced both of them a year ago) and my master cylinder and one of my wheel cylinders need to be replaces, and my ball joints need to be replaced soon too. I dunno which cv axle and ball joints are fucked up... so i'm just replacing all the ball joints. I figure the axle won't be very hard to figure out, look for the busted boot and listen while turning the wheel and all that. after that my car is mechanically brand new! almost, the engine has around 50k on it, but not bad at all.

i got to check out the new civic coupe. it's sweet! the ebrake is in a really dumb place though. I got a brochure for the new civic line from the honda place and it's really really well designed. mmm... and it smells like matte varnish and fresh ink. the varnish isn't even just matte, it's a frosted looking matte over a gloss coated paper with the gloss peeking out in places. it's some seriously swank shit. i was really impressed.

speaking of design, i think i've found the firm i'm going to work for. they meet all my criteria: they're in a large city, in canada, and their design style matches mine. they're hiring right now too! i think they might be a bit big for me (they have two offices in different cities, and i was really hoping for a small firm), but i'm in love with their work. i'm sure i can land a job there because i'm stubborn and refuse to give up once i find something i want.

Judging from the huge bronze chicken statue they have at their headquarters, I think the Christian thing is just a cover for their worship of "false idols".

Now everyone, go down to the lake and bow down on the shore to the giant chicken on the island of the God. Oh shit, here comes someone, everyone act all churchy like.

It's in the middle of the woods down by the airport near a bunch of industrial parks. It's on a small unmarked road off of a two lane highway. They clearly don't want people just wandering onto their compound. Though there was no guard at the gate the day I went, the fence and gate are quite tall and solid steel.

I don't know why they need all the security since they have the Batmobile in the lobby. I thought it was very weird to have something as materialistic as a collection of rare cars in the lobby of a Christian based company. Of course the whole closed on Sunday thing may be just to cover up their chicken worship.

alternators make noise when they go bad. we've had no noise. also, if it's the alternator the lights would dim when the fans came on and whatnot. :P

i've actually had another alternator go bad on a honda and shawn's had two go bad, and they do :P

not as loud as say, a water pump, but (hondas at least) have a slight metallic grinding sound when they go bad.

Take your battery out, put it in his car. Try and start it. then, while its running, remove the battery.

If the car has problems staying on at this point, its the alternator.

The battery is just there to rotate the starter motor enough times to get the engine running on its own. After that, its unnecessary for the function of the car.
